FEBRUARY – The Sovereign God

Categories: Blog,Word of the Month

Calvary greetings in the name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who has made it possible for us to come into February 2011 – the second month of our Year of Great Expectation (Rom. 4:18-19).  God declared unto us that we should expect great things this year and that “all will be well”.  You can make it through every challenge. This year, God said your greatness will be far bigger than those you are tempted to envy (1 Sam 9:1-2). It is a New Dawn (Isa. 43:19). Therefore, this month we are excited to know the Almighty as The Sovereign God, Jehovah Adonai (Gen. 15:2-8).

What do we mean by the Sovereign God? We mean the supremacy of God, the kingship of God.  To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Almighty, the Possessor of all power in Heaven and earth, so that none can defeat His counsels, thwart His purpose, or resist His will (Psa. 115:3).  To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is “the governor among the nations” (Psalm 22:28), setting up kingdoms, overthrowing empires, and determining the course of dynasties as best pleases Him.

In Isaiah 46:10, the Bible says about The Sovereign God, “declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”  Therefore, to say that God is Sovereign is to declare that God is God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High, doing according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou? (Dan. 4:35).

This Sovereign God is the All-Powerful and All-Mighty One. He can turn around any situation that you are facing in a moment. Nothing is too difficult for Him (Jer. 32:27).  Therefore, expect a divine turnaround for the tide will turn to favour you (Psalm 102:13).  God told us that, this year, how far He will take us will depend on our willingness to obey divine instructions (Isa. 1:19, Job. 36:11).  If you obey divine instructions, you will get divine manifestations for it is the year of the Master! (Isa. 9:6-7).

Furthermore, as we seek His face this season, it is my prayer that we will encounter His awesome power (Luke 10:19; Hab. 3:2). We are reminded that the anti-christ spirits in the land will bow in the name of Jesus Christ and even dying testimonies will come alive. Therefore, I welcome you all to a season of genuine consecration this month. As we acknowledge The Sovereign God, He will put an end to hopelessness and reverse the irreversible situations in your life as you encounter His resurrection power in Jesus Name as was the case in the story of Lazarus (John 11:1-44)! Like the Apostle Paul let your prayer this season be: “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead…” (Phil. 3:10)

Shalom,

Dr. Akpo Onduku.
