AUGUST – Born To Shine

Categories: Word of the Month

Calvary greetings in the name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and I welcome you to the month of August which has been declared unto us as a season that we will live as stars that are BORN TO SHINE!

Daniel 12:3 says that “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.”  Stars were created by God to shine just as you were created by God to shine. What is the purpose of stars? The Bible says that they were created to serve as signs (Gen. 1:14).  The Bible story reminds us that at the time of Jesus’ birth a star appeared in the sky as a sign of His birth. You too were created to shine, to be a sign to a hopeless world that there is hope. To be a sign that points towards the light that comes from being a follower of Jesus.

In addition to stars, diamonds also shine. Diamonds shine because they reflect light-just as we are to reflect God’s light. Interestingly though, a diamond’s sparkle comes from its cut. Each tiny cut must be exactly the right size, shape and angle, so that all the light which enters the diamond will be reflected back through the top. Similarly in order for us to shine as our creator intended we need to be shaped and cut just the right way by Him. This can be a painful process and one which we often resist.

In all, the Holy Scriptures in Matthew 5:14-16 highlights the fact that we are the light of the world and therefore cannot be hid.  We are to let the light of God in us shine that men may see the good works and glorify the Father which is in heaven.  We need to let our light shine because it is a command from our Lord in order to rescue those lost in darkness.  In fact, we are programmed by Jesus Christ to shine but this can only be fulfilled when we truly are carriers of the Light which comes by a genuine knowledge of knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.  May your light shine brighter and brighter unto the perfect day in Jesus Name, Amen!

Shalom,
